Norma Jean (Marilyn) was born in the Los Angeles County Hospital on the June 1st, 1926. On her birth certificate, it said Norma Jean Mortenson, this was changed to Baker soon after. She was the third child of Gladys Pearl Baker. Baker was the surname of Gladys's first husband but Norma Jean's father was 

Martin E. Mortensen (his surname was misspelled on the birth certificate), although, throughout her life Marilyn (Norma Jean) denied Mortenson  her father.
